Winter Park Real Estate

Who would have thought that construction for a tunnel would be the start of something so sublime a place as Winter Park, Colorado. It all began when two tiny settlements called ‘Old Town’ and ‘Hideaway Park’ sprung into being with the construction on the Moffat Tunnel began in the early 1900’s. It took awhile for the vision of brainchild David Moffat who was mulling the idea since 1902.

The apex of the tunnel, by the way, is at almost ten thousand feet above sea level. The tunnel today is under lease to Denver, which operates it as a trans-mountain diversion project that brings water to the eastern slope of the range. Nevertheless, Hideaway Park began in about 1932. It developed very fast as construction of the tunnel increased the flow of workers to the region, mostly from the Denver area. Winter Park real estate has not been the same since. Twenty six tourist cabins, gas station and a café were among the first businesses. Soon, a big saloon, a garage, and a nightclub were built and made a lot of money.

It was on August 1, 1978, however, that the town was officially founded and became Winter Park. In 1980, Winter Park grew suddenly by incorporating the ‘West Portal Village.’  Winter Park real estate, of course, has never been the same. Most recently, the old town of Arrow was annexed into Winter Park and this marked the start of the massive but community oriented, ‘Arrowhead development.’

What makes Winter Park real estate so notable, however, is not the history of the place. It is the natural, timeless essence of the town and surrounding landscape that makes it so wonderful and notable. After all, Winter Park real estate is doing well, even though the nation is suffering all kinds of real estate problems.

In the fall, Winter Park actually comes alive! Trees turn red and yellow while the breeze is refreshingly warm. It is the ideal time for fishing in the Colorado River or taking pictures of Elk wandering around the valley… Without too many crowds, Winter Park in the Autumn is truly a special place to visit.
